Includes correspondence, printed material and scrapbook material dealing primarily with the activities of Elnora Arnett (Mrs. J.G.) Merritt in the Texas Centennial of 1936 and in the Women's Liberty Loan Committee of 1918. Of special interest is a March 1882 copy of "The Great Southwest," and letter written to Spade Ranch manager D.N. Arnett on the occasion of his 50th anniversary.

Pioneer rancher, horseman, and manhunter. Born in Lampasas, Texas in 1865. Worked as the first foreman of the Spade Ranch until he saved enough money to start his own ranch in 1904. He was swindled out of $30,000 in 1919, and began a 15-year manhunt that resulted in the capture of an estimated 100 men, and Norfleet being nicknamed "The Little Tiger" by a national magazine that covered the story. George Herman Mahon was born on September 22, 1900, near Haynesville, Louisiana to John Kirkpatrick and Lola Willis (Brown) Mahon. In 1908 the family moved to Loraine, Mitchell County, Texas. D. N. (David Nathan) Arnett was a West Texas rancher, trail boss, ranch manager, and banker. He was born in 1847 in Milam County, Texas. Arnett served in the Civil War as Texas Home Guard and later joined the regular Army (CSA). In 1867 he became a Texas Ranger. His career in ranching began in 1870, and he was employed as "trail boss" by D.H. and J.W.
